Gay Marriage in Australia ...

... is an inevitability, even if the likes of Tony Abbott, Cory Bernardi and Eric Abetz are trying to hold back the tide.

Every once in a while there's something that goes on in Federal Parliament that demands a response. After a six hour debate in the combined Coalition Party Room about what to do in relation to gay marriage, Eric Abetz emerged with his usual asinine performance, commenting that most gay men just didn't want to get married. Today, Tim Watts gave a wonderful response to Abetz's uninformed and prejudiced stance.

Chapeau to you, Mr Watts! The people of Gellibrand can count themselves lucky to have you as their representative.

Just to put things in perspective, this article - which has a great map - shows the nations around the world which now allow same-sex marriage. Most of the western nations have gone ahead of Australia. Our refusal to enact legislation in this area is in line with socially advanced nations like Iran, China and Russia, along with almost all of Africa.
